Oconomowoc Boardwalk

In partnership with the Oconomowoc Area Foundation, the Greater Milwaukee Foundation is investing in the reconstruction and enhancement of the boardwalk and adjacent gazebo in Oconomowoc’s historic downtown.

In celebration of its 100th year of service, the Greater Milwaukee Foundation is providing regional gifts to develop lasting public spaces in each of the four counties it serves. In Waukesha County, the Foundation’s centennial gift of $200,000 will help improve this important downtown segment of Fowler Lake in Oconomowoc.

“This effort will result in a visible upgrade of a public space that all residents and visitors to Oconomowoc can access,” said Ellen M. Gilligan, president and CEO of the Greater Milwaukee Foundation. “Everyone can take pride in this project.”

Renovation of the 350-foot boardwalk – part of a two-mile path around Fowler Lake – will connect pedestrian traffic to local businesses and destinations. A small gazebo located off the boardwalk near City Hall will be redesigned and rebuilt through the process. The City of Oconomowoc and the Parks and Recreation Department are also partners in the effort.

This project is occurring during a time of active, impactful investments by the city and local philanthropy. Among other recent developments are the Village Green, a downtown gathering place; the newly completed Veterans Memorial Park; and the Oconomowoc Community Center.

Work on the boardwalk will begin in 2016.

The Oconomowoc Area Foundation is a supporting organization and regional partner of the Greater Milwaukee Foundation.
