bruce.jpgMilwaukee, WI - Aug. 1 2012 - Peter W. Bruce, of counsel at Davis & Kuelthau, has been named the new chair of the Greater Milwaukee Foundation Board.

Bruce is a Foundation donor and has served on the Foundation's Board since 2006. He currently chairs the Development Committee and also serves as a member of the Community Investment and Administration and Audit committees. He assumes the leadership position from John W. Daniels Jr., chairman of Quarles and Brady LLP, who served as chair for the past two years. Daniels remains on the Foundation's Board.

"Peter is an outstanding and visionary community leader, with extensive business and management experience that will be very important to the continued success and positive impact of our Foundation," said Ellen Gilligan, Foundation president and CEO. "I look forward to working with Peter, and appreciate the ongoing excellent guidance of John Daniels and all our Board members."

Prior to joining Davis & Kuelthau in 2007, Bruce spent 37 years at Northwestern Mutual. He started with the financial security company as an attorney in its legal department before eventually transitioning over to the business side where he oversaw a number of areas. He ultimately was named Northwestern Mutual's chief insurance officer and became a member of the company's board and several of its subsidiaries.

Bruce serves on the boards of numerous nonprofits including Alverno College, Curative Rehabilitation Foundation and Urban Day School. He also is a board member of Badger Meter Foundation, Milwaukee Bar Association Foundation and the American Management Association.

He is a volunteer attorney with the Legal Aid Society and his work at Davis & Kuelthau is concentrated on pro bono legal work.

He is a member of the American and Wisconsin bar associations and received the Milwaukee Bar Association Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010 for his work at Northwestern Mutual and his service to the community. Bruce received his law degree from the University of Chicago Law School and a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He also completed the Harvard Advanced Management Program.
