Hispanic Collaborative counts GMF as key partner
The Greater Milwaukee Foundation has invested $300,000 to help launch the Hispanic Collaborative, which aims to raise the economic prosperity of Hispanics in metro Milwaukee. Hispanic leaders leveraged a study commissioned by the Foundation in 2016 – Latino Milwaukee: A Statistical Portrait – to organize and coalesce around a bold goal of Milwaukee becoming one of the nation’s top 10 Hispanic communities on the Hispanic Well-Being Index. Our rank is currently 39th out of 50. The collaborative’s primary areas of focus are:
- Greater income through targeted career pathways
- Building economic power through entrepreneurialism and innovation
- Leveraging the Hispanic voice

LOVE is here to stay, thanks to Foundation donor
Through the generosity of an anonymous donor, the Greater Milwaukee Foundation recently donated Robert Indiana’s iconic American Love sculpture to the Milwaukee Art Museum as a permanent addition to MAM’s collection. The sculpture was on display in 2018 on Wisconsin Avenue in front of Northwestern Mutual as part of Sculpture Milwaukee, an annual showcase of significant artworks placed on public display in downtown Milwaukee.
Sculpture Milwaukee, which the Foundation has supported in consecutive years, is the vision of business leader and philanthropist Steve Marcus. The artist Indiana is also well-known in Milwaukee for his 1970s design of the MECCA floor. American Love will be installed near MAM’s East End patio, facing Lake Michigan, when the ground thaws in the spring.

Foundation managing fund for parks projects
Milwaukee County Parks chose the Greater Milwaukee Foundation as its trusted partner for stewarding private donations for future improvement projects within the parks system. The establishment of the Foundation’s Milwaukee County Parks Fund allows individuals and businesses to give toward capital projects and operational costs in any of six specific areas: playgrounds, trails and natural areas, community centers, aquatic facilities, parkways and bridges, and athletic facilities. Proceeds from the sale of parks-inspired items purchased at parksforgood.com are also directed to the fund.
This public-private partnership aligns with the Foundation’s support for and belief in the value of public spaces for community gathering, recreation, fitness and conservation.
