‘Take your rightful place’: Danae Davis Makes Way for Next Generation

After seven years as executive director of Milwaukee Succeeds, Danae Davis retired in November. With prominent roles across government, corporate and nonprofit sectors, Davis has had an exciting career trajectory, touching the lives of many in the community. During her time at Milwaukee Succeeds, Davis equipped her team with the leadership skills to continue the work of achieving equity in early childhood education and high school success for Black males.

Greater Milwaukee Foundation’s latest ‘A Milwaukee for All’ centers lived experience

The Foundation’s final “A Milwaukee for All” event of 2022 addressed the power of community philanthropy, the value of centering lived experience and how to reframe and co-create community narratives. The event featured Ellen Gilligan, president and CEO of the Foundation, in conversation with Tonya Allen, president of the McKnight Foundation, and a roundtable discussion with Kevin Newell, Glenn Carson and Clintel Hasan. The event concluded with an interactive talk-back session.

‘Voting is true power’: Foundation supports mobilization efforts

The Foundation awarded $100,000 across seven groups to support their voter mobilization and education efforts. The goal was to increase voter turnout and encourage civic engagement as a part of the Foundation’s advocacy work and strategic plan to catalyze systems change. The groups are Metcalfe Park Community Bridges, League of Women Voters Milwaukee County, Breaking Barriers Mentoring, Second Chances Staffing Services, Wisconsin Voices, Pastors United and Southside Organizing Center.

Foundation honors community leaders with Greater Together awards

The Foundation’s annual Greater Together awards honored Ralph Hollmon, Keith Stanley, Lauren Feaster and José Olivieri. The awards recognize area-based leaders for their civic contributions, commitment to enhancing community spaces and places, inspirational leadership and effort to make the region more welcoming and inclusive.
